Two-week workshop in Croatia for the Conservation and Restoration of Artworks workshop
Two-week workshop in Croatia for the Conservation and Restoration of Artworks workshop
From August 24 to September 7, 2025, the Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art workshop will participate for the third consecutive year in the Blended Intensive Project – International Conservation Workshop Lopud.
For two weeks, this training workshop brings together the University of Dubrovnik (UNIDU), the Cologne Institute of Conservation Sciences (CICS), and La Cambre for a collaborative conservation-restoration project on the Croatian island of Lopud.
The work involves the choir furniture of the Gospa od Spilica church, the framed engravings that form part of its decor, and a painting on canvas depicting Saint Jerome, from a nearby chapel. The work focuses on consolidating structures, treating surfaces, filling in gaps, and stabilizing the paint layers.
Beyond the technical dimension, this project is a unique educational and human experience: working in site conditions, comparing methodological approaches, sharing knowledge, and developing solutions adapted to material and logistical constraints. This international workshop also promotes the discovery of Croatian heritage, exchanges with the local population, and the building of lasting professional and friendly networks.
