Trans—formations exhibition
Une exposition pour célébrer les 100 ans de La Cambre
Founded in 1927 by visionary architect and designer Henry van de Velde, the École nationale supérieure des arts visuels de La Cambre (ENSAV) is approaching its centenary. On the eve of this major celebration, several exhibitions are being held to highlight the achievements of alumni and pay tribute to the institution's artistic heritage. Among them, Trans—formations invites visitors to discover works from the industrial design, textile design, interior design, fashion, and accessories departments.
Curated by Marie Pok (CID – Centre d'innovation et de design au Grand-Hornu), this event is the result of a collaboration between Les Amis de La Cambre, MAD Brussels, and the CID – Centre for Innovation and Design at Grand-Hornu.
A fundamental concept in teaching at La Cambre, transversality is the common thread running through this exhibition. Faced with an increasingly complex world, designers are breaking down disciplinary boundaries. They combine craftsmanship and science, technology and art, marketing and artificial intelligence to enrich their creative process. In Trans-formations, transversality takes various forms: from one-off collaborations to total mergers between disciplines, always with the aim of better understanding and shaping our contemporary reality.
Some fifteen projects illustrate this bold approach. Here, astrophysics dialogues with watchmaking, architecture intertwines with corsetry, and artificial intelligence becomes a creative partner. The result is surprising objects, innovative approaches, and profound exchanges between humans, machines, and society. La Cambre thus appears not only as a breeding ground for talent, but also as a space for reflection, experimentation, and engagement. An exhibition that questions and redefines the contours of tomorrow's design.
